Getting started
I'm not yet sure what to do with this blog. I guess it will start as a personal journal, something to keep me busy at 3 am when I can't sleep. I was diagnosed with early onset parkinsons about 14 years ago. I continued to work full-time until October, 2009. I now want to devote more time and energy keeping PD under control. I have started exercising regularly, the next step will be to move into rigorous exercise. I am attending Zumba classes. My neurologist at Mass General said I should exercise to music so that works and is a really fun cardio workout. I went to the first class because I was curious as to what could attract over 100 women in Ellsworth, Maine every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5:30 pm. I need to work on muscle toning too, especially my arms. My primary symptom is tremor on my left side. Carbidopa/levodopa is still fairly effective at controlling that but I have to takes doses every 2 to 3 hours. I often have trouble sleeping because I will wake up at 2 or 3 and can't get back to sleep because the meds have worn off and the tremor is present. I can take carbidopa then but it takes an hour to take effect. Then if I go to sleep, I'm wasting all that "on-time."
